Why you should get naked at your wedding

Ok, now we’ve lured you in with our lurid headline (sorry about that, but you have to do what you can in business these days) we can admit that we don’t mean you should get naked at your wedding. Unless you want to that is. We’re completely cool with that. Honest. But what we’re really talking about is naked cakes.

This has been one of the surprise trends for weddings in 2015, and here at The Wedding Portugal, we love it. Looking at these pictures, it’s easy to see why.

The traditional wedding cake is usually a rich, marzipan or heavily iced affair. It sits on the table looking pretty but a little dull, and when it’s eventually cut into pieces, they weigh as much as a house brick. People fold pieces up in napkins and forget about them.

Not so with naked cakes. These cakes are lightweight, elegant, delicious, versatile and will almost certainly get devoured.

After all, when so much effort has gone into lovingly creating a gorgeous sponge or cake mix, why cover it all with sickly icing? These slimline (in every sense of the word) and simple cakes have proved to be incredibly popular at our wedding events.

They work really well in winter and fall weddings, and offer great opportunities for decorations with natural colours and flowers.
